Telling Time in Depression-Era Art:
The Pocahontas Post Office Mural
A-State Museum’s main gallery holds a larger-than-life mural painted by Louis Freund for Pocahontas, Arkansas in 1939. Titled, Early Days and First Post Office in Arkansas, this picture shows multiple eras of the town’s history in a single frame.
Join us April 10 at 4 PM to hear Dr. Gayle Seymour discuss telling time as a form of narration in visual art. Seymour’s study recognizes 21 post office murals in Arkansas, but her focus will be on the Pocahontas painting.
